If you've ever wanted to move to Colorado, the time is perfect to start experiencing Denver. Titanic Lifeboat #6, the lifeboat that Margaret was pushed onto, had room for many more passengers. The Molly Brown House Museum received $80,000 in NEH funding for the exhibition Molly Brown: The Biography of a Changing Nation," which opened June 23. There wasn't a lot of information throughout the house about the trip on the Titanic but I learned that there was so much more to The Unsinkable Molly Brown than just the Titanic.

While known for surviving the infamous sinking of the Titanic, Margaret "Molly" Brown was also a leader in the fight for women's suffrage. In 1970 the Brown house was also due for demolition when concerned citizens formed the Historic Denver Inc. As the home of world-renowned Titanic survivor, socialite, philanthropist, early-Denver fashion icon and women's rights activist Margaret Molly” Brown, it was shared with her husband, mining engineer J.J. Brown, and their children Helen and Larry.

In fact, Margaret spoke several languages and aboard the Titanic she helped translate the warnings and instructions to passengers who didn't speak English, staying on deck to help until someone physically lifted her down into a lifeboat and off the ship.

Born on July 18, 1867, in Hannibal, Missouri, Margaret Tobin was the second of four children born to John and Johanna Collins Tobin. Molly is often referred to as the Unsinkable Molly Brown, a nickname she was given after she rowed a lifeboat for seven and a half hours to reach safety after the sinking of the Titanic.

Take the Molly's Neighborhood Walking Tour which not only explores the house but also the grounds and surrounding neighborhood. Margaret's Irish immigrant father, John Tobin, worked at the Hannibal Gas Works. Located in what was then the prestigious Capital Hill area of Denver, the house belonged to Molly and her husband from 1894 until her death in 1932.

The Browns's wealth came from the gold and silver mines of Leadville, Colorado. Luckily, we arrived and were able to purchase tickets just before a scheduled tour began; we didn't have to wait very long and were able to enjoy the outside of Ms. Margaret Brown's home for about five minutes.

With the help of History Colorado Center, the museum worked to unearth a different side of Molly and her family - giving people a better understanding of their life in years Vacation after World War I. The Molly Brown House Museum in Denver, CO, is hosting Victorian Halloween ghost stories.
